PBA Draft Focus: Blackwater Elite
Picks: (First Round) No. 9; (Second Round) No. 1
Finishing at the cellar in all three conferences, Blackwater is approaching the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft with a high sense of optimism.
The Elite only had two bright spots last conference: Marcus Douthit and Brian Heruela.
But they have since traded Heruela to Barako Bull while tapping Douthit is out of the questions for the season-opener Philippine Cup.
Blackwater got a promising scoring guard in Carlo Lastimosa to provide the much needed offense it’s longing for, but it may not be enough to plug Blackwater’s needs overall.
Coach Leo Isaac admitted that building through youth will definitely be the center of the Elite’s offseason moves after swinging (and missing) with veterans last season.
In a solid draft class like this, Blackwater missed out on its chances of landing the top pick and probably a franchise player after dealing their pick to Talk ‘N Text. But with the cards they’re left with, landing two solid picks in the late-first round and early second round will still be a more than a welcome addition for the Elite.
Needing help bolstering its line-up, the Rookie Draft should be a high time for the struggling expansion team to at least improve on its already underwhelming roster.
