Mahindra, Meralco aim to end skids

Down to their last games in the eliminations, both Meralco and Mahindra aren’t treating this last assignment as any tuneup of sorts.

For the Enforcer, win would secure the franchise their best finish in any conference as they can still snare one of the top four spots at 6-4.

The Bolts, meanwhile, wants to avoid any complications as they seek to secure their spot in the quarterfinals with their 5-5 card.

Unfortunately, both teams have found themselves on a two-game losing skid in their past games and only one of them would emerge victorious when they cross paths Sunday in the 2016 PBA Governors’ Cup at Mall of Asia Arena.

Mahindra is coming off a sorry 93-86 defeat to Ginebra on Friday, and coach Chris Gavina would like nothing but finish the job he has done all season long.

But after battling a famed mentor in coach Tim Cone, he clashes with another in Meralco coach Norman Black.

Jimmy Alapag said that the Bolts’ focus are firmly in that affair, as Meralco is still hoping to squeak itself in the top four.

“You don’t want to be on the other side, on the twice-to-beat disadvantage. You don’t want to put yourself in that situation,” he said. “Our playoffs starts now.”
